DD 1, DD 2 and DD Metro where the former two were like a father showing serious stuff like news, sports and family/religious shows while the latter was like an effervescent child full of entertainment. At the times when TV was considered to be a prominent thing in Indian homes, DD was the monopoly. It was like an OS for TV. Comparatively today, the world of television has become a war, the more channels, the better. DD was an example of plain simple stuff. The news was decent and upto the point. Even a sensational news was portrayed as a normal one courtesy the news presenters who seemed to belong to a family with symptoms of low blood pressure or saints( You know what I mean). The news of DD was linguistic and broadcasted in various languages like English, Hindi, Urdu etc. Moreover there was also news for differently abled people and was presented through sign language. Such was the diversity of this channel that it was like a Superhero for us. From news to sports to entertainment series to cartoons everything was available across 3 channels. You can say DD was like a Zeus of Indian Television. To recall all the cricket was specifically broadcasted on DD when today we have channels like Star, SONY, Ten etc which have exclusive rights of various sports and also have various flavors so that multiple coverages across various sports are available. Even when cable network was introduced people heavily relied on DD because only DD had exclusive rights for cricket broadcast so even if cable was not working, DD had to be or otherwise it was a riot situation. ![]() Then we had serials like Ramayan, Mahabharata which were holy and cult being watched in every household. Sunday mornings, the world used to be glued to TV because of them. The entertainment serials like Chandrakanta, Rangoli, Chitrahaar, Vikram Betaal, Dekh bhai dekh etc were refreshing. Detective shows like Sam D’Silva and Byomkesh Bakshi gave me chills because of the freaky cases that were investigated(I’ll probably laugh today). The background score was haunting and petrifying to say the least. Download adobe creative cloud. Serials of Super Humans like Marshall, Shaktimaan and fables of Alibaba 40 thieves, Potli baba ki etc were all too facinating. Cartoons like Silver Hawks, Defenders of the earth, Jungle book, He Man, Duck Tales, TaleSpin etc were my life lines. The amazing thing about DD was that everything was graceful. There was no ” sensational” news. There were no explicit/vulgar or venemous TV shows.
